Here’s some new tunes for y’all to check out… Leave comments and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Mp3s are below text

1) ART MUSEUMSS.h.o.p.p.i.n.g. I just caught wind of this SF duo and so far I’ve been really enjoying the Brit jangle pop that’s very similar to the beloved Television Personalities. The band has an album scheduled for release on Woodist (home of Real Estate) on February 16, they’ll also be playing at the Rickshaw in SF on March 14. I  heard that they’ll hopefully be playing at this year’s SXSW, so keep an eye out.

2) THE RADIO DEPT.Memory Loss It’s been 4 years since their last record and I must say, it’s been worth the wait. Their new album, Clinging To A Scheme due out in April this year on Labrador Records, is ruling my world. I’m very pleasantly surprised, fans old and new won’t be disappointed.

3) TAKEN BY TREESAnna One of the standout tracks from last year’s album East Of Eden. In case you aren’t too familiar, Taken By Trees is Victoria Bergsman from the Concretes‘ solo project. She’ll be touring starting February 13 with El Perro Del Mar, which is a pretty big deal since she hasn’t played the States in quite some time. For tour dates click here.

4) THE KNIFESeeds There’s been a lot of buzz circulating recently around this new Knife+Mt. Sims+Planningtorock collaboration “electro-opera” album entitled Tomorrow, In A Year, based on the Charles Darwin book The Origin Of Species. Seeds is one of the stand-out tracks from the album evoking more thudding dance beats and a little less opera (although it’s definitely present).

An oldie but a goodie…

5) SPIZZENERGIVirginia Plain I love this cover of the Roxy Music classic. It was featured as the B-side to Spizzenergi’s “Soldier Soldier” 7″ which was released on Rough Trade back in 1979.

“I don’t exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it.” – J. D. Salinger

Posted in New Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 28, 2010 by pauliepalooza

As a tribute to J.D. Salinger and the book that had so much impact on many a High Schooler’s lives (The Catcher In The Rye), I want to post a few tracks from bands that I’ve recently discovered from his home town… New York City. Salinger was born on January 1, 1919 in “the City” (Manhattan). I hope you all enjoy the tunes and a big “Thank You” goes out to Mr. Salinger. RIP.

1) BEACH FOSSILS “Youth” and “Wide Awake” I figured these two tracks are pretty fitting with today’s theme. Beach Fossils is a 4-piece from my favorite borough, Brooklyn. They play my revered type of jangly lo-fi rock that’s reminiscent of what Lou Reed and his garage-y predecessors like The Seeds, Love, Syndicate of Sound, etc. Check out their DAYDREAM EP on Captured Tracks out 2/9/10. They will be at this year’s SXSW, so check ’em out!

2) THE BEETS “For You” and “I Wish I Knew How My Life Should Be” This Jackson Heights trio (not to be confused with the other “Beets” from the cartoon show, Doug) will be touring with Beach Fossils and San Diegans Christmas Island. More lo-fi garage-y vibes. These guys will also be at SXSW this year.

3) SUNDELLES “Dead Youth” Dirty, fuzzed out rock’n’roll! I had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform with the then Muslims-now-Soft Pack dudes awhile back. Loved ’em.

4) SISTERS “Highway Scratch” Quite the dynamic duo, these guys make a lot of noise for just being two dudes. Reminds me a bit of Japandroids but maybe a little poppier. And guess what??? They’ll be at SXSW too! 😉

5) SHARK? “Big Wheels (It’s Alright)” I love the flow of this song. Upbeat, acoustic and a bit dirty. Love it! Oh, and… YES they will be at SXSW. haha

“Thank God for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk.”

It’s Thursday in LA and it’s still rainin’…

I’ve got a couple new tracks for y’all to check out, so here we go…

Note: DL links are now below text

1) Liars “Proud Evolution” One of my favorite tracks from the Liars’ forthcoming album, Sisterworld (available 3/8/10 on Mute). This track reminds me of how much this band has evolved over the years and how diverse their sound has become. This album features strings, horns and hints of the usual craziness one has come to expect from them.

2) Harlem “Friendly Ghost” I came across this band’s newest album, Hippies (available 4/6/10 on Matador) just the other day. I’m digging their garage-y type rock n roll. Hailing from Austin, TX these guys definitely go well with White Denim (another Austin band).

New Tunes For A Rainy Wednesday!

Posted in New Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by pauliepalooza

Howdy folks!

Here’s some new tuneage for y’all on a lovely rainy day… enjoy!

Uno: Four Tet “She Just Likes to Fight” (click on “LINK” to DL “LINK”) This smooth track is off of the upcoming new Four Tet album entitled There Is Love In You (available 1/25/10 on Domino). So far, from what I’ve heard of this new album, I’m really enjoying it’s atmospheric, chill sound. Make sure you catch him live, he’ll be on the road in February. For more info click HERE

Due: Sister Crayon “Souls Of Gold” (click on “LINK” to DL “LINK”) One of the more poppier tracks from this Sacramento quartet. I was lucky enough to catch them at the Echo in December on one of the Manimal Vinyl residency nights. I really enjoyed their set and their songs. If you’re a fan of Bat For Lashes, you will definitely love them (although you can’t really tell with this track). They’ll be performing with Tycho and other amazing electronic artists on January 30th at the Sacramento Electronic Music Festival. Also check out this more sultry, mellow track by Sister Crayon called “Here We Never Die” (click on “LINK” to DL “LINK”)

Tre: Memoryhouse “To The Light House (MillionYoung Remix)” (right click on “LINK” to DL “LINK”) I’m super keen on MillionYoung (as you probably can tell considering I devoted a whole post to the guy) and this MillionYoung remix of the Canadian duo’s “To The Light House” is super slick and definitely adds his flava to the song.

Quattro: Pantha du Prince “Stick To My Side (feat. Noah Lennox from Animal Collective)” (right click on “LINK” to DL “LINK”) I’m lucky to have come across the new Pantha du Prince album called Black Noise (available 2/8/10 on Rough Trade). This track is effin’ tight! So is the whole damn album actually. Check it!

¡Viva The Soft Pack!

Posted in New Music with tags , , on January 9, 2010 by pauliepalooza

As many of my friends know, I love me some SOFT PACK (formerly The Muslims). These four guys from LA-via-San Diego have their first album (cleverly titled The Soft Pack) coming out on February 2nd on Kemado Records. There’s been much said about these guys already so I’ll just keep it lean and mean… these guys are friggin spectacular and if you haven’t heard or seen them live yet, do yourselves a favor and check them out… NOW!

The band will be playing a couple dates with PHOENIX up in the Northwest this month before heading out to NYC then across the pond to Europe to support their new album. Before they head out on their long tour, the band is offering to play at your house (within LA city limits). Here is what they posted on their website (

We Want To Play At Your House!!

Hey there – So, we have a record coming out February 2nd and to celebrate we want to throw a show at YOUR house. We’re not out to thrash your place or anything – we’d come, play, hang out and have a couple of beers. All your friends plus a few of ours = guaranteed good times. If you’re interested, just respond to in 50 words or less and let us know why we should play your house! Ideally, your house will be in the Los Angeles area, anywhere between Long Beach to Downtown LA to Santa Monica.

So enough with the ranting… here’s a couple of songs from the new album that have made me giddy as of late:
