1) ART MUSEUMS – S.h.o.p.p.i.n.g. I just caught wind of this SF duo and so far I’ve been really enjoying the Brit jangle pop that’s very similar to the beloved Television Personalities. The band has an album scheduled for release on Woodist (home of Real Estate) on February 16, they’ll also be playing at the Rickshaw in SF on March 14. I heard that they’ll hopefully be playing at this year’s SXSW, so keep an eye out.
2) THE RADIO DEPT. – Memory Loss It’s been 4 years since their last record and I must say, it’s been worth the wait. Their new album, Clinging To A Scheme due out in April this year on Labrador Records, is ruling my world. I’m very pleasantly surprised, fans old and new won’t be disappointed.
3) TAKEN BY TREES – Anna One of the standout tracks from last year’s album East Of Eden. In case you aren’t too familiar, Taken By Trees is Victoria Bergsman from the Concretes‘ solo project. She’ll be touring starting February 13 with El Perro Del Mar, which is a pretty big deal since she hasn’t played the States in quite some time. For tour dates click here.
4) THE KNIFE – Seeds There’s been a lot of buzz circulating recently around this new Knife+Mt. Sims+Planningtorock collaboration “electro-opera” album entitled Tomorrow, In A Year, based on the Charles Darwin book The Origin Of Species. Seeds is one of the stand-out tracks from the album evoking more thudding dance beats and a little less opera (although it’s definitely present).
An oldie but a goodie…
5) SPIZZENERGI – Virginia Plain I love this cover of the Roxy Music classic. It was featured as the B-side to Spizzenergi’s “Soldier Soldier” 7″ which was released on Rough Trade back in 1979.
